It is with sadness that I have to report the passing of one of Neighbourhood Watch’s most loyal and hard working members, Percy Legge who died in April after a long period of poor health. Percy and his wife Betty had run the old post office in Walberton for 9 years and he was a strong and proud man. Proud of his family and proud of his position in the community. He would not let criminals get the upper hand as he once chased off potential robbers at the Post Office with a cutlass with not a thought of danger to himself. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Betty and his family at this sad time. ---------------------------------------- I am glad to say that very little crime was reported in April and the only police report was of two suspicious males in a transit van looking at vehicles and properties in The Street at 3am Saturday 6th April. They are asking for further information, but at that time of the morning it will be difficult to obtain. Ref: 0180 06/04. The police have asked me to thank you as they gratefully receive information on all suspicious activity, suspicious persons and Anti-Social Behaviour occurring in our area. now Did you know that Walberton is a “Broadband Slow-Spot”?
Would you like a broadband service that city-dwellers take for granted?
Did you know that Walberton residents and businesses who get their
broadband via a phone line pay the highest prices for the poorest services?
Please support your community to be included in the early stages of
West Sussex County Council's Broadband Improvement Programme.
They are launching a campaign to enable 90% of the county
to access faster broadband services by April 2015 If you have access to the internet please go to
and register your support. Alternately, and if you don't have access to the
internet, please telephone 01243 642119 for a form and return it to the
FREEPOST address at County Hall.

Interactive Millennium Map
In 2000 some village residents produced the Millennium Map
pictured above and some of these went on to form the Walberton History Group.
Since then the History Group has collected a growing number
of archives relating to the village and this site is intended to make a few of
these available for general use.
These featured places are indicated as "Hot Spots"
and are located by moving the cursor around the map
We have also used the Millennium Map coordinates to
indicate the location of the places included. It is divided into squares
lettered A to K from left to right and 1 to 7 from top to bottom.

Walberton - The Place (1) A brief description of the village as it is today. (2)History There is a very active history group in the village. Click here for more information. Among other work it has produced a A description of all those houses that formed the village 100 years ago with photos of them as they are today. If a walk down The Street is intended a print of this makes the walk much more interesting. Also the Worthing Archaeological Society has found Binsted (Part of the Civil Parish of Walberton) a source of exciting finds. Transport around Walberton
(1) Bus Services. Besides the main bus route there are several other services including a community minibus. The schedules of all of them are given. (2) This gives easy access to railway timetables. We travel by train to avoid driving and parking in busy towns and were surprised to find how many towns can be reached from Barnham with one, or no, changes. |
