The present society was formed in 1968 with the purpose of providing the opportunity for
those interested in horticulture as a hobby to come together for various activities.

Membership is open to anyone . At present the subscription is £2.00 per annum.
This brings you a free copy of the Annual Schedule, reduced fees for entries to shows,
priority booking on outings,free entry to winter talks, and the right to
vote at the AGM. The total membership(2005) is just under 300.

The society stages four shows each year:-

A SPRING SHOW in March/April |

A main SUMMER SHOW in August |

AUTUMN SHOW in mid-September |

Apart from the horticultural section every show has at least one or more other sections.
A number of trophies are awarded at each show.

A "Bring and Buy" plant sale is held on the second or third Saturday of May to
assist members in the purchase of young plants for their gardens at reasonable cost.
A small commission charge also helps raise funds for the society. 2007 date - 19th May

A lunch is arranged near to Christmas at one of the local pubs so that members
can meet for a purely social occasion. The 2006 Xmas lunch will be held in February/March 2007. The date and venue have yet to be arranged.

In addition to the Annual General Meeting in October (2007 date - 18th) the society holds three
evening meetings in the winter months, when a guest speaker gives a talk on some
aspect of gardening. Alternatively one of the meetings may be a semi-social occasion
which includes a horticultural quiz.
